Marvel: Breaking Dawn ~ Evolution

Everything was changing, and it was happening way too fast. Recent events had left Damien with a bad taste in his mouth. His head hurt constantly, and on those days he was hungry, he still found it hard to eat. His powers were fluctuating, and the demon inside him was gaining more power each day. It took everything he had just to stay in control. He had little time for anything else. He probably looked like shit.
He had nothing to compare his experiences too, so he was pretty much to winging it at this point. His relationships were taking a hit, since he was never around. He felt bad about that. Allison especially probably needed some attention. God Allison, what had happened to her in that fucking glass city? Velvet was getting more anxious by the day, and he was sure she probably felt like he was just being flaky. Damn, life was sucking. It couldn’t be helped though, the less time he spent around people he cared about the better. It would be nice if those two could take solace in each other, then he wouldnt have to worry as much. He wasn’t sure how much longer he could stay himself.
He was breaking down mind, body, everything. The shadow was getting out more frequently, and he just couldn’t predict what it would do next. It hated everything, and was a force of absolute destruction. He would never forgive himself if it hurt the people he called family. Thus, he had little choice but to try and keep distance between the others and his self.
The constant whispering was starting to get to him as well. The darkness always had something to say, and it was never nice. He wondered sometimes if he was just crazy. Could he be sedated, and restrained, and locked away forever? Maybe that would be for the best. Damien pondered these things as he walked in a circle around the small campsite he had made in the wilderness surrounding the ‘cabin’. Out here there was little temptation for the demon to emerge, and he was largely left to his thoughts. Out here there were no distractions, and he could concentrate on holding the shadow inside, but even out here it was taking its toll.
“You bore me host.” It whispered, “You can’t hide out here forever. Soon you will have to move out, and face the world once more.”
Damien sneered, “Well that’s not today, so shut up.”
“How does it feel to be so isolated? How does it feel to slowly go mad? Do you not see the folly in your struggles? Stop fighting the inevitable, and face your fate.”
“I said SHUT UP!” he shouted into the open forest, “I swear I’m at the end of my rope. I can still teleport us straight into the sun.”
“Can you?” the shadow mocked.
Damien groaned irritably. He wasn’t actually sure he could anymore. The shadow was draining him, and blocking his access to the dark energy of the Eye. Every time he tried to use his abilities, it seemed they had as much of a chance of not working, as them doing what he wanted them too.
“I’m not done yet either.” The shadow whispered, “If you refuse to evolve then I will force it upon you.”
“Really not in the mood.” Damien groaned.
“Tough. What doesn’t kill you only serves to make you stronger.”
Everything went dark, and Damien tripped over something he couldn’t see. He didn’t even realize he was on the ground for several moments, as it all happened so fast. “What the fuck did you do!” he shouted.
“I am replacing your human senses with something more efficient.”
“You’re what? I can’t see? You made me blind?” he yelled, shaken to his core, “How is this possible? When did you get this kind of control over MY body?”
The shadow rasped, amused by its hosts query. “I have always had the power. We are one, so my abilities are a part of you. I have simply been waiting for our bond to take root. I couldn’t risk you doing something to threaten this union, and potentially destroy us both.”
“You have to stop. This won’t work the way you think it will. Just like you can control me, I have power over you. Every time you gain control, I take it back. I may just decide the next time you go on one of your rampages to take my body back, and let your enemies end us.”
“You wouldn’t dare. You’re a survivalist, just like me. You don’t seek death, you seek to become it. I can feel that inside you. I have always been able to feel your rage. It mirrors my own, and this is why WE work. You fight too hard. There is no reason, we are the same Damien.”
“Give me my sight back. What could you possibly gain from this?”
“Give me a moment Damien. I have not finished. You are premature to judge my intentions. You have already mastered the darkness, you have always had a way to see. I am simply improving that ability.”
“At the cost of my sight?”
“Yes at the cost of your human sight, as well as other… things.”
“Wait, what? What other things? You can’t do that. You’re trying to make me into some kind of freak. The others already look at me like I’m crazy. They already have trouble looking me in the eyes. You can’t change me, just because you want to. I need to be me, I need to keep some of what I am. There is too much at stake, don’t you get that?” he was losing his focus, and starting to slip. He tried his best to calm down.
“I can in fact, and will, change you, but not because I simply want to. This is all a part of a larger picture. You need to be better than you are. I am doing this to improve the form as a whole. So many of your senses are useless, so why not focus, and refine those that are necessary.”
“I’m blind you fuck! If you want to make me powerful then give me back control of the darkness!”
“No.” the shadow stated bluntly.
“I hate you.” Damien spat.
“That is irrelevant. Now let me finish, and reveal to you what it is like to see the universe as I do.”
Slowly a pinprick of light entered Damien’s perception. Was he seeing it? He couldn’t be sure, but it was there none the less. Slowly the light expanded, and engulfed him. Swirls of tangible frequency, and wavelengths splayed throughout everything. The world was once more apparent to him. He stood up, and looked around. He didn’t know what he was looking at, but he slowly started to define patterns in the chaos. “What is this?” He asked flatly.
“This is the universe as it really is. This is the fundamental form of all things. This is what I once perceived, and shall again. It allows me to see truth where others are blocked by illusions.”
“I have no idea, what this is. What I am looking at?”
“Energy… pure energy. In time you will come to understand the differences between the patterns.”
“How is this possible?” Damien asked with caution.
“I have modified your sensory organs to perceive such. Those organs that weren’t necessary will not function as well as they once did. This will become apparent as well, with time.”
“You said you modified my sense organs. Do I look different now?”
“Yes. Your changes will be apparent to others that see you, but why does that matter. You are superior. You are better than they. Their opinions mean so very little.”
“So you’ve scarred me, making it even harder for me to interact with other people. How am I supposed to finish school? How do I just go out to have a night on the town?”
“I would suggest… carefully.”
“You think this is a joke, some kind of game? You are ruining any chance I have to be normal, and just exist!” Damien was furious.
“I am not ruining you. I am freeing you. The interactions you seek are not necessary to us. They make you weak, and hold you back. Accept these changes as they come. You can do little else about them anyway.”
Damien fumed. He knew this was pointless. He knew whatever was happening, he was powerless to stop. Just like being stripped of control. Just like being stripped of his humanity. Everything he had been working toward was swirling down a dark drain of entropy. The harder he resisted the worse it all seemed to get.
A quick thought hit him, and he stumbled back into his camp. It was hard to distinguish between the shapes, and patterns of things, but it was getting better. Somehow he was gaining an intuitive understanding of this new ability, even as he walked the short distance to his tent. Once there he ducked inside, and rooted around until he found what he was looking for. He held the mirror up so he could see himself.
The play of light waves was starkly different than that of his human sight, but he could still see his reflection. It was more detailed, and vibrant that he remembered. He instantly knew what the shadow meant. His eyes were shaped oddly, and no longer looked even remotely human. They glowed with a violet brilliance, and no longer had pupils. He tilted his head, and shook it from side to side. As he did so he noticed contours of light formed trails through the air. They dispersed in moments, but it was still disconcerting as hell. So this was his new look. Great, fan-fucking-tastic, he thought.
Subdued, and now in a really bad mood, Damien spent most of what was left of his day trying to crush small sticks, and stones with darkforce. He tried really hard not to think about having to go back, and explain all this. Just one more short straw to make his life difficult.
He had nothing to compare his experiences too, so he was pretty much to winging it at this point. His relationships were taking a hit, since he was never around. He felt bad about that.
