For discussion of concerns regarding the city of Laternum.
Part I: Settling In
Things of concern:
1)Shelter and Food
a)Where do you want to live, both in terms of the area of the city (poor, common, wealthy, etc.) and what type/number of dwellings (a series of houses, a compound, a rented apartment, etc.)?
b)Where/how are you getting food, and what quality of food are you eating?
2)Income
a)What are you doing to make money (likely a list of things, considering your variety of skills), and how are you going to make that happen?
b)What is your primary area of focus regarding income (trinket shop, armor and weapons, menial labor, etc), and what are your goals (subsistence, profit, making a name for yourself in social circles, etc)?
3)Training and Group Stuff
a)Who trains who, and in what?
b)How do you go about making your followers more organized?
c)What do you train yourselves in (what is your focus)?
4)Goals
a)What are your goals (find your countrymen, infiltrate the nobility to find out the part of Lateria in the attack, make a name for yourselves, make money, etc.)?
b)How do you plan on accomplishing them (Rely on "Rose" to get into the nobility, make a lot of money and buy whatever you want, train an army, etc.)?
c)What direction are you taking after Laternum, and what are your long-term goals?

b)Where/how are you getting food, and what quality of food are you eating?
No real suggestions here...
2)Income
a)What are you doing to make money (likely a list of things, considering your variety of skills), and how are you going to make that happen?
b)What is your primary area of focus regarding income (trinket shop, armor and weapons, menial labor, etc), and what are your goals (subsistence, profit, making a name for yourself in social circles, etc)?
a) Armor and weaponsmithing, tailoring, jewelry crafting, clothe weaving, hunting and selling of pelts (I don't remember other skills that we have); use our existing money to purchase the materials that we need to craft these items and through engineering design and build mobile workshops (mainly thinking about a forge here but also would need to get a loom that can be easily transported, the tools for the trades).
b)my personal focus will be armor and weapons, but I would also like to see us create and sell jewelry, I would also like to set up a mercenary company for the combatants that we will be training, so we need to review all the regulations and draw up a charter for that. I don't want to set up a permanent store front at this point, but a group of traveling merchants and craftsmen (I think that Ortho and Vala would be great for acting as our merchants for selling our goods.) My goals are profit, funding our private army, and making a name for ourselves in social circles. Another thought that I have for that is to avoid selling any of our masterwork or magic items to anyone who may have been responsible for the attack on Tarn and selling those items at a possible discount to the allies that we pick up.
3)Training and Group Stuff
a)Who trains who, and in what?
b)How do you go about making your followers more organized?
c)What do you train yourselves in (what is your focus)?
a)I need to see a list of our people to answer this, but I know that I will be training the warriors and smiths.
b)I plan on making our group militant as far as lifestyle goes, this provides a high level of structure and aids in the cohesiveness of our organization. Once a good routine is set up then the people will be able to go about their day to day routine without much prompting and it will also aid us for when we go into combat as everyone will know their roles.
c)I train myself in furthering my smithing techniques, history, combat tactics (in the form of historic battles and games of strategy), architecture and engineering (primarily improving our carts, siege equipment, being able to identify the weak points in buildings, campsite setup (tents, trenches, latrines), and I want to train myself to be a better combat commander/company captain.
4)Goals
a)What are your goals (find your countrymen, infiltrate the nobility to find out the part of Lateria in the attack, make a name for yourselves, make money, etc.)?
b)How do you plan on accomplishing them (Rely on "Rose" to get into the nobility, make a lot of money and buy whatever you want, train an army, etc.)?
c)What direction are you taking after Laternum, and what are your long-term goals?
a)Find our countrymen is primary for me, find those responsible for the attack on Tarn and stop whatever it is that they are planning to do, and form a traveling nation of warriors and craftsmen that is self reliant and can be used to thwart said plans.
b)Rely on "Rose" to gather intel from the nobility and the upperclass social circles, while she is doing this I want to be organizing the craftsmen and training our army, other people need to gather intel from the shadier parts of society, Also Jin can help training and the morale and spiritual health of our troupe.
c)See above...

1) I don't care were we live. I am concerned about the well being of the Tarnish that we have with us. I think finding a section of low incoming housing, and making a small community would help lighten the mood, and keep people well.
As far as the quality of living, it obviously has to be something that we can afford, but right now I feel indebted to those we have rescued, and don't think slouching on small comforts for them is to heavy a burden to bear. If we can get income, and be productive, that should help off set some of the costs.
2) As far as making money, I way we all use the skills we have, and allow the people we have with us to do the same. Letting them work will help them settle, and keep their mind of all the bad things that have happened. As for my part I can craft Bows, and arrows, and a well versed in nature lore. I can teach this to people, and use it to bring in supplies/resources.
Marketing I will leave up to others, as its not my strong suite. I think that it would be wise to try and profit from any of our endeavors however, as opposed to just trying to subsist.
3) As far as training goes, Im a live and let live kind of guy. If people really want training, I will help where I can but I refuse to press anyone into service, or try and goad the unwilling. Those that want to just settle are welcome to do so. I am young, so most of my experience is in hunting wild game. However, I am fast becoming an expert in killing a different sort of prey. I am willing to share this knowledge with interested parties. Guerilla tactics, and ranged combat, are things I am confident to teach.
I should note that I am not interested in a formal code of conduct, or charter of any kind. People that want to learn how to kill someone with a bow, then disappear into into the shadows can come to me. There wont be a contract, and they wont need to pledge anything. I don't care If I am acknowledged in a professional capacity, and will not be pressed into a code of conduct of any sort.
It is in these areas I feel I need to better myself as well. If there are any rumors of individuals adept in these areas I might seek them out. Crafting is the other thing I am interested in doing. I plan on working to perfect the art my master taught me before his death.
4) My goals are to find any Tarnish citizens who are alive and free them, and to reek vengeance, the likes of which this world has never seen, upon those that destroyed our society. Once found those citizen are free to do as they wish, and own me nothing. I would like to rebuild Tarn someday, and restore it to it's former self, but have little hope of that happening. As it is I would at least like to find a place were Tarnish peoples may go to try and start over.
If I find out who in Lateria was responsible for the attack on Tarn, I will visit them in the night... and it wont be a tooth fairy sort of visit. I will follow up on any such rumors to the best of my ability.
I guess I will become a prowler, a shadowy figure in the night, looking for clues throughout the city. I will follow anyone who is prominent, and may be connected to information about Tarn, around. Some of the others may need to infiltrate the high society, to pick up on any rumors. I will work the streets, and ask questions. I may look into an outfit a bit more fitting to urban ninja work.
As far as long-term goals go, I want to free my people, set them up with a new life, and then destroy everyone who brought this tragedy down upon them. I also harbor a small quaint dream, of rescuing a certain damsel, and perhaps when all this is over settling down to a nice life.

After some thought and discussion I have concluded that IMO the best course of action for us as an organization is to turn ourselves into a mercenary company. My reasoning behind this conclusion is that by being a merc company we can count on the relative neutrality of the much larger nations that we are staying at and traveling through, it would allow us to work closely with the military organizations that possibly attacked Tarn, it gives us the freedom of mobility where we could travel to most countries and not be attacked out of hand, we won't run into people trying to destroy us because they believe that the job that they did at Tarn was unfinished (as opposed to if we announced to the world that we are the Tarnish nation), we wouldn't have to worry about a much larger nation or province attempting to attack and absorb us into themselves so that they can get our resources or just destroy us if we decided to set up a settlement of our own, it would provide us with a source of income, provide us with actual campaigns through which we can hone the skills of our people whom we will be training to fight, and if a mercenary company goes around trying to gather information about military actions they are just trying to gather info so that they can better prepare themselves for their role in the upcoming conflict, if the survivors of Tarn go around asking questions then they might be attempting to seek vengeance and will need to be put down.
So I vote for this course of action as quickly as possible, we can pursue other things as well of course, such as setting ourselves up as craftsmen but in the decision of whether we should announce to the world who we are and attempt to carve out a place for our people or to do something else, I think that this is the most viable options. If I don't hear any objections then I will begin making arrangements to enact this course of action.

Aurelleyon will refuse to become a part of a mercenary outfit. It isn't in his nature to follow the leader, and play army. He is a free spirit, and he wants to remain that way. Further more he doesn't entirely trust several of his companions to make the decisions he feels will need to be made in order to exact revenge on certain bad people.
He wont hinder any efforts to train soldiers, unless the people being trained don't actually want to be doing something, then he might step in. He will just take a hands off approach for the most part.
That said he is all for letting the freed slaves hone crafts other than warfare, for the day they can return to a relatively normal life.

I need business proposals from any of you who are wishing to open a business and need money from the treasury. I would like some form of proposal about how you plan on making us money. I for one am opening an alchemy/hebalism shop.
As for living accommodations i would suggest a series of houses in cheap areas. Given the number of people we have that is the most economically viable route i think. Also we can upgrade later or improve existing housing.
I am all for doing a mercenary company though i doubt my character would have much involvement in it. I am personally looking into making a small bank and handling loans using some of the gold and assets we have.

My business plan is to find some noble to invest in one or more of our businesses. For that I will need money to play the noble, i.e. better housing, fancy clothes, money for business meetings, things like that.
On the mercenary company, it is an OK idea, not a way to make money through the winter. Training is not the way to feed and cloth people. I would be willing to be a noble benefactor of the mercenary company, but i don't not plan to be a member or take part in the training (necromancers are not known for their teamwork anyway)
As far as what my plan is to do, it is to find out all I can about who was involved with the attack on Tarn. Long term goals i am not sure on, I need more info before I can decide.

1)Shelter and Food

b)Where/how are you getting food, and what quality of food are you eating?/quote]
1a) I vote that we start off in the poor side of the city and spend at least some of the time developing whatever buildings we get into a slightly higher standard of quality. This sort of work would take a small amount of monetary investment and perhaps two weeks of work. The goal would be to generally improve the quality of the buildings, ensuring that they don't have drafts, are more well-insulated, and perhaps installing a few creature comforts (such as plumbing, if that's possible with existing technology). A series of houses or a few largish apartment buildings seem to be the most logical forms of housing to secure for a group this large.
1b) Food is more problematic. We'll have to simply buy it to start off with, but once our business ventures get off the ground, we should be able to afford it via either money or trade without any appreciable loss.
2)Income
a)What are you doing to make money (likely a list of things, considering your variety of skills), and how are you going to make that happen?
b)What is your primary area of focus regarding income (trinket shop, armor and weapons, menial labor, etc), and what are your goals (subsistence, profit, making a name for yourself in social circles, etc)?
2a/b) For my part, see the business proposal below. I plan to start creating quality fine goods, trinkets, jewlery, etc, which cater to the middle and upper classes.
3)Training and Group Stuff
a)Who trains who, and in what?
b)How do you go about making your followers more organized?
c)What do you train yourselves in (what is your focus)?
3a) I'll be training 'Pretty' to fight and in the finer points of skills she may have interest in. I'll probably be soliciting help from a few others (like Adam's character) to help her skills training.
3b) I'll largely leave this to Paul.
3c) Aside from trying to improve my own craft, I'll be doing self-training in fighting as I train up Pretty, and independently. If Pretty is interested in learning to craft what I make, I'll take her as an apprentice, if not, I'll take anyone else in the refugees who is interested. I probably develop a regimen something like this:
wake up (5am), personal training - 1hr (6am), train Pretty - 2hr (8am), craft - 4hr (12pm), lunch - 1hr (1pm), craft - 4hr (5pm), train Pretty - 1hr (6pm), dinner - 1hr (7pm), train Pretty - 2hr (9pm), personal training - 2hr (11pm), sleep
Totals:
Train Pretty 5
Personal Training 3
Crafting 8
Sleep 6
4)Goals
a)What are your goals (find your countrymen, infiltrate the nobility to find out the part of Lateria in the attack, make a name for yourselves, make money, etc.)?
b)How do you plan on accomplishing them (Rely on "Rose" to get into the nobility, make a lot of money and buy whatever you want, train an army, etc.)?
c)What direction are you taking after Laternum, and what are your long-term goals?
4a) Find and free countrymen. Search out those responsible, bring them to justice (probably our own brand since it seems that not many national powers have our backs), fund our growing band of refugees, fund future equipment and expansion needs
4b) Will do some crafting myself (see business plan). Will need to find ways of gathering intelliengence. If "Rose" is able to cover that, so much the better, but if not we'll need to find other sources of info, either by paying for it or by infiltrating likely places and/or doing some sneakywork.
4c) No idea. Long term goals are goals listed above.
Ivanovich wrote:I need business proposals from any of you who are wishing to open a business and need money from the treasury. I would like some form of proposal about how you plan on making us money.
I will need money to get a forge and a few starting materials. We've got some gems I can work with, but it'd be useful to get some more. I'll then craft them into finer goods, jewelry mostly, perhaps also awards and such for local law-enforcement or military and the like, and sell them for a profit (hopefully a fairly substantial one). Most of the fine goods will be aimed at the upper and middle-upper classes (assuming any sort of middle class exists). Paul's travelling forge idea appeals to me as well, but for the moment I'm content to have a stationary one. I'm also willing to play storefront for anyone that needs to move their goods.

So, any new plans/actions in preparation for next game (this weekend)?
