Janice is 47 years old, and is a charge nurse at the VA hospital. She is kinda bitchy most of the time and has been hardened by her job. Some of you have had occasion to meet Janice, either at the VA hospital itself or at the public library. She really can be quite nice. She has five cats and can run an IV in less than 60 seconds. Recently, she has been holding down an extra job in home health care, making calls on the elderly or infirm. This has left her exhausted all the time. Today she did not appear at work, and a per diem nurse was used instead. Janice has not missed a day of work in 15 years.

She received her nursing license in 1976 in Dallas, TX and served two years in the peace corps before starting work in hospitals. She has moved from job to job a few times, but mostly out of employee strategy then out of dissatisfaction. (This sort of tactic is a common way to overcome low wages for new employees that stick with you for years, and also helps by gaining recruitment bonuses.)
